THERMAL CHARACTERISATION AND TESTING:
1. CHARACTERISTIC TEMPERATURES AND HEAT OF CHANGE IN MATERIALS
Characteristic temperatures and heat of change in materials: melting, glass transition, crystallization, decomposition, oxidation, chemical reaction, specific heat capacity, calorific value, kinetics of reactions.
DSC-differential scanning calorimetry (-170°C- + 600°C, different gases, heat/cool rate 0.001 – 99 °C/min). Bomb calorimeter; Method development.
Standards: ASTM D3418,E1269, E1356, ISO 11357.
2. THERMAL STABILITY
Weight loss during thermal degradation, weight loss/gain during oxidation, ageing behaviour.
TGA-Thermo gravimetric analysis (20-1000°C, different gases, heating rate 0,1 – 80 °C/min). Ovens and furnaces RT- 1800°C. Method development.
Standards: ASTM E2402, E2250.
3. VISCOELASTIC BEHAVIOUR OF MATERIALS
Storage modulus, loss modulus, damping, viscosity, creep and relaxation, dimensional stability (shrinkage, expansion), glass transition temperature (Tg), heat deflection temperature (HDT) as a function of temperature, frequency, atmosphere and under various loads: compression/penetration, tree-point bending, dual-single cantilever bending, tension, etc.
DMA-dynamic mechanical analysis (-170°C- +600°C, different gases, heating rate 0,1… 20°C/min, 0,01…100 Hz, ampl. 7,5…240 µm, force max.16 N). Rotational rheometer (-150…+600 ˚C convection oven, -20…+200 ˚C Peltier, normal force range 0.005-50, max torque 200 mNm), fixtures for liquid and solid samples. Method development.
